Home' Supercar Xtra : June July 2014 Issue 81 Contents BREATH OF FRESH AIR!
V8 Supercars desperately needed
another Craig Lowndes to come
along and it seems we have that
with Scott McLaughlin.
Like Lowndes, he has made an
immediate connection with fans
thanks to his friendly nature,
humility and great skill behind
the wheel of a V8 Supercar.
It’s hard to believe
McLaughlin is so young and so
inexperienced as he races like a

AND SO MUCH MORE
All this talk of international
events in the United States of
America, Asia, the Middle East
and more is frustrating for this
V8 Supercars fan.
What about expansion closer
to home? There are tracks like
Lakeside, Mallala and Calder Park
that need an upgrade but could
potentially host V8 Supercars.
Surely the money spent in
flying the series overseas and
promoting events where V8
Supercars is hardly recognised
would be spent on improving
This not only keeps V8
Supercars local where the fan
base is but helps grassroots
So hopefully the talk of second
events in South Australia and
New Zealand and possible circuits
in Geelong, Newcastle and the
Central Coast comes true.
With the current imbalance of
manufacturers in V8 Supercars, is
it time the series did something to
ensure there are equal numbers?
There are still too many
Holdens compared to the
other makes. And teams will be
tempted to switch to competitive
new cars like the Volvo Polestar
S60, meaning less diversity on the
grid. Each manufacturer should
be forced to commit to one
factory team and one customer
team, so we can see some consist-
ent numbers and equal presence
between the different makes.
